“Slow Poke” Yacht Completes $8 Million Refit, Enhancing Performance

by Alisa

The 27.5-meter motor yacht Slow Poke (formerly Coy Koi) has recently emerged from an extensive $8 million refit at Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center, completed in 2024. Originally built in 2000 as part of the Doggersbank series by Kuipers and designed by Vripack, the explorer underwent a 2.5-year transformation to meet the unique preferences of its American owner, blending vintage-inspired functionality with modern upgrades.

Key enhancements to Slow Poke include a 2.5-meter hull extension paired with a CFD-optimized bulbous bow, resulting in a notable performance boost. The modifications improve the yacht’s speed by 2 knots while reducing fuel consumption by 10%. Additionally, a hydraulic swim platform and elevated stern were integrated to enhance access to the water.

“The new platform offers us the freedom to engage with the water effortlessly as we explore,” the owner remarked.

While the yacht maintains its original steel hull and aluminum superstructure, its mechanical systems have been overhauled, including rebuilt engines and generators from a 2018 refit. Exterior updates feature a striking black hull, accented by a British racing green stripe, along with custom awning artwork by renowned artist Paul Kremer.

Interior renovations by New York-based design firm Redd Kaihoi introduce high-gloss retro styling, while retaining Vripack’s original layout. The yacht accommodates six guests across three ensuite cabins, including a master suite that pays homage to the owner’s 1952 Porsche 356A with a color-matched design.

Signature features of the yacht, including its split-level flybridge and expanded aft deck spaces, remain intact, offering ample space for relaxation and exploration.

“For me, Slow Poke is the perfect three-night boat,” the owner commented. “It offers a sense of tranquillity that larger yachts simply can’t provide.” Since its refit, Slow Poke has cruised the West Coast, from Mexico to the Pacific Northwest.

Vripack, the studio behind the yacht’s original design, continues to be a leader in the field of yacht design, with a portfolio of over 7,400 projects. Founded in 1961, Vripack has built a reputation for combining form and function in its naval architecture and engineering.
