Taiwan’s VIVIC Yachts and Canada’s ACEL Power have formalized a Joint Development Agreement to revolutionize the electric yacht market. This collaboration combines ACEL’s cutting-edge electric propulsion technology with VIVIC’s boatyard expertise to enhance the design and performance of luxury electric yachts.
Under the agreement, VIVIC will focus on yacht design and construction, while ACEL will handle the research, development, production, and integration of the electric propulsion systems.
A Synergistic Partnership
VIVIC made its mark in the electric yacht sector in 2022 with the introduction of its 27-foot VVT model, featuring the company’s own electric propulsion system. The yacht was unveiled at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Service Trade Conference.
Founded in 2021, ACEL Power has quickly positioned itself as a leader in high-powered electric propulsion. The company specializes in fully integrated propulsion systems, offering electric outboard motors ranging from 50 to 75 horsepower (35 to 55 kW). ACEL is also working on expanding its range from 1 to 650 horsepower (0.75 to 475 kW).
The partnership aims to accelerate electric yacht development, combining VIVIC’s design prowess with ACEL’s propulsion technology to set new standards in performance, safety, and longevity for the industry.
VIVIC’s Global Presence and Innovation
VIVIC is known for its design, production, and service of yachts in North America, Asia, and the Middle East. Specializing in catamarans, VIVIC offers a range of models from 12 to 18 meters (40 to 58 feet) for personal and commercial use. Catamarans are particularly efficient, requiring less propulsive energy than monohulls, and their shallow draft makes them ideal for navigating inland and shallow waters. When fitted with electric propulsion, these vessels are well-suited for environmentally sensitive waters, especially in regions with strict fossil-fuel restrictions.
Electric Models on the Horizon
The companies will launch three electric yacht models immediately: the EV1, EV2, and EV58. These models will feature ACEL’s electric propulsion systems, powering both the yacht’s propulsion and house systems.
The EV2 is based on VIVIC’s 14-meter (45-foot) VV2 model, featuring a spacious salon, galley, sunning decks, and cabins in each pontoon. The EV58 is a double-deck catamaran with an 8.4-meter (28-foot) beam, designed for both personal leisure and as a floating luxury venue for business events. It includes expansive outdoor lounge and dining areas, a barbecue space, and water toys.
Leadership Commentary
VIVIC President and CEO Tse-Ling Wang expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, “We are optimistic that this collaboration with ACEL Power will strengthen our global market position and drive future growth.”
ACEL Power CEO and Co-founder Anthony Liu added, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in accelerating the adoption of electric propulsion in the luxury yacht market. By leveraging digitalization, we are crafting a smart catamaran that not only enhances performance and efficiency but also shapes the future of the industry toward a cleaner, smarter, and more connected future.”
Sales and Production Plans
Under the terms of the agreement, VIVIC will manage production, construction, sales, and after-sales service in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. ACEL will oversee sales and after-sales in all other regions and handle the production of the electric propulsion systems. The first yacht delivery is scheduled for July 2025.
