The 29-metre sailing yacht Tawera has rejoined the brokerage market and is now listed for sale with Adam Papadakis of Moravia Yachting. Originally delivered in 1995 by Alloy Yachts, a New Zealand-based shipyard, Tawera is constructed from aluminium and designed by renowned naval architect Ron Holland.
The yacht has been meticulously cared for by her sole owner, who has maintained her to “exceptional standards.” Notably, Tawera underwent a major refit in 2017 and has recently undergone additional updates in 2024, including the rebuild of her main engines, ensuring the yacht remains in excellent condition.
Tawera is a ketch-rigged racer-cruiser with a proven track record in competitive sailing, having secured multiple regatta victories. Her wins include the New Zealand Millennium Cup regattas in 2016, 2017, and 2019, the 2021 Mastercard Superyacht Regatta, and the 2024 Cyclades Cup Regatta.
The yacht offers accommodation for up to six guests across three en suite cabins, including a full-beam master suite and two twin cabins, each equipped with entertainment centres. For the crew, there are two additional cabins, which accommodate four crew members.
The interior, styled by Peter Sijm, features a neutral colour scheme complemented by warm teak paneling, with accents of vibrant colour through soft furnishings. The living spaces are spacious, offering two metres of headroom and large windows that enhance the sense of openness on board.
The saloon is split-level: the upper saloon includes a dining area for six, while the lower saloon features a semi-circular dining area, a small library, and an entertainment centre with a sofa, providing a comfortable and versatile space.
In addition to her competitive regatta history, Tawera has also sailed to numerous remote destinations, including the Maldives, Djibouti in the Horn of Africa, and through the Suez Canal to Europe, demonstrating her ability as both a racer and a family cruising yacht.
Under power, the yacht is equipped with a 235hp MTU engine, which allows her to reach a maximum speed of 10 knots, a cruising speed of nine knots, and a range of 2,500 nautical miles, making her a capable and long-range vessel.
