Cure 55 Nominated for Multihull of the Year

The Cure 55, the flagship model from Cure Marine, has quickly become a contender for the prestigious Multihull of the Year Award in the Performance Cruising category, as recognized by Multihulls World/Multicoques Magazine. This acknowledgment comes just months after the vessel’s debut, marking a significant milestone for the Australian catamaran manufacturer.

“We are truly honored to have the Cure 55 recognized by industry peers,” said Dave Biggar, Co-Founder of Cure Marine. “Our team has worked tirelessly to push the boundaries of boat design and create a world-class product. We believe we’ve succeeded in both and are immensely proud to launch the first Cure 55 as an Australian-designed and manufactured catamaran.”

At 17.78 meters in length with an 8.69-meter beam and a 1.3-meter draft (with dagger boards up), the Cure 55 is designed with a focus on comfort and safety for long-term cruising. The standard layout includes a luxurious owner’s suite on the starboard hull, complete with a large ensuite. On the port side, there is a spacious aft guest cabin and a forward cabin, which can be configured as a double berth, bunk beds with office space, or a combination of storage and workshop space. Separate toilet and shower compartments are also included in the port hull.

Cure Marine, founded in 2022 at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, aims to become a leader in the performance luxury catamaran market. The Cure 55 features advanced, lightweight construction with a full carbon fiber hull, carbon fiber bridge deck, bulkheads, cabinetry, and structural elements. This cutting-edge design ensures superior structural integrity while minimizing weight.

Renowned Australian naval architect Paul Bury led the design process, supported by Cure Marine’s in-house design team. The company’s founders, Dave Biggar and Ian McMahon, have further revolutionized the industry by using the largest 3D printer in the Southern Hemisphere. More than 1,000 3D-printed parts are included in each Cure 55, demonstrating Cure Marine’s commitment to producing the lightest and most advanced catamaran in its class.

Cure Marine also utilizes KINETIX R118 Infusion Epoxy and custom-formulated laminating epoxies from ATL Composites, enhancing the boat’s performance and handling. “We’re very pleased with the quality of Kinetix from ATL,” Biggar stated. “Their customer service is outstanding, and they are always responsive to market needs, offering solutions for resin, glues, and cores as required.”

The first Cure 55, named Miyu, was launched from Mooloolaba and is now owned by Gold Coast residents Terry and Amy Robinson. “We are thrilled to be the owners of the first Cure 55,” the Robinsons said. “When we began our search for the perfect catamaran, it became clear that Cure Marine had the answers to all our needs. The Cure 55 pushes catamaran design and performance to a new level, and we’re excited to be part of this innovative project.”

Cure Marine is known for its involvement in some of Australia’s most notable performance multihulls, including Zero, Chill Pill, and Noire. The launch of the Cure 55 catamaran is a significant step in the company’s ambition to bring Australian-designed and constructed vessels to the global market.

Looking ahead to 2025, Cure Marine continues to expand its global presence. “The success of Cure Marine is driven by our deep expertise in composite technologies,” said Biggar. “With in-house manufacturing of carbon panels and the integration of 3D-printed components, we’ve achieved scalable production while maintaining our commitment to excellence. The Cure 55 seamlessly combines speed, durability, and comfort, setting a new benchmark for production catamarans.”

The Cure 55 will make its public debut at the 2025 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, scheduled for May 22-25. In October, the Cure Marine team will promote the brand at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. With construction underway and orders already placed from Australia, Europe, and the US, the company’s global footprint is rapidly expanding.
