The Boat Works has welcomed the Voodoo XF75, Mach 4 — a 22.8-metre power catamaran that may be the fastest motor yacht ever to cross “The Ditch,” completing the 1,170-nautical-mile journey from New Zealand to the Gold Coast in just 36 hours.
The yacht reached a top speed of 50.9 knots and maintained a cruising speed of 35 to 36 knots for most of the trip, impressing even Customs agents monitoring the voyage.
Departing from the Bay of Islands with a crew including Mitch Pachoud from New Zealand builder Voodoo Yachts, the team made brief stops at Balls Pyramid and Lord Howe Island before continuing to Australia. They arrived at Southport Yacht Club Customs on Friday night and were cleared by Border Force on Saturday morning, before berthing at The Boat Works’ Superyacht basin for final preparations ahead of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) 2025, where the Voodoo XF75 will make its global debut.
Designed entirely by Voodoo, the 75-foot Xpedition Foiler is described as “devastatingly fast, immensely capable, and effortlessly luxurious,” a claim proven by its record-breaking Tasman Sea crossing.
“We’ve made fast passages before, but this one was unique,” said Mitch Pachoud. “We maintained 36 knots most of the way.”
Having visited The Boat Works in late 2024, Mitch praised the facility’s quality and services, calling it “tidy, beautifully landscaped, and an all-round great experience.” He confirmed it would be their preferred yard for future projects.
SCIBS is a key event for Voodoo. Mitch emphasized, “It is the best show in Australasia.” The team plans a standout entrance with an Airbus H130, a seven-seater helicopter, aboard the heli-deck, setting them apart from competitors.
