June 2025 – Giamboi Designs has officially unveiled the Azzurra 48, the largest model in its semi-custom superyacht line. Measuring 48 metres and staying under 500 gross tonnes, the new flagship combines sleek Italian design with advanced Dutch naval engineering to raise the bar in the 40–50-metre yacht category.
The Azzurra 48 joins its smaller siblings—the 36-metre and 40-metre models—first revealed in April 2025. Like its predecessors, the 48-metre yacht is built on Van Oossanen’s well-known Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF). This hull design increases fuel efficiency and reduces emissions, all while maintaining comfort and strong performance at sea.
“The Azzurra 48 represents our vision of a semi-custom superyacht,” said Mauro Giamboi, Principal Designer at Giamboi Designs. “It offers generous space, signature Italian styling, and the proven performance of Van Oossanen’s FDHF technology.”
Maximised Space and Refined Design
One of the standout features of the Azzurra 48 is its bold, asymmetric hull and deck lines. This design increases usable interior space while maintaining a sleek exterior profile. On the upper deck, a full-beam owner’s suite creates a private retreat. It comes with a personal studio and a forward-facing balcony that includes an integrated plunge pool.
The main saloon also benefits from the asymmetric layout. This design choice creates more space and allows for expansive glass walls that bring in natural light. Clean lines and a minimalist style add to the modern and peaceful ambiance. The lower deck includes a full wellness area, complete with a steam room and massage suite.
Comfortable Living for Guests and Crew
The yacht can host up to 16 guests. It includes two extra pullman berths and staterooms that can be converted between twin and double beds. Crew movement and service are made easy with dedicated passageways, an onboard dumbwaiter, and a lift that connects all decks. This ensures privacy for guests and smooth operations for the crew.
Standout Features and Versatile Options
The Azzurra 48’s raised pilothouse design allows for several luxury features. These include fold-out terraces on the main aft deck and two plunge pools—one on the main deck and one on the upper aft deck. An optional helipad can also be added, giving owners the flexibility to arrive in remote destinations by air.
“This project shows how smart naval architecture and hydrodynamic design can improve both comfort and performance,” a Van Oossanen representative said about the collaboration.
Built for Adventure and Long-Range Cruising
Designed for both relaxation and exploration, the Azzurra 48 is reinforced for icy waters and comes with two propulsion options: traditional diesel or a diesel-electric hybrid. It has a cruising range of 4,250 nautical miles at 11 knots. Owners can choose between Caterpillar C32 ACERT or MTU 12V 2000 M96L engines, or a hybrid system that delivers 2,200kW using onboard generators. The engine room is ready for IMO Tier III-compliant exhaust systems.
Expanding the Azzurra Series
The Azzurra Series now includes three models. The 36-metre yacht focuses on compact space and smart layout. The 40-metre version brings a more luxurious feel. The new 48-metre Ice Class edition is designed for longer and more adventurous trips, meeting the needs of owners looking for both elegance and endurance.
