Renowned Italian designer Mauro Giamboi has teamed up with Van Oossanen Naval Architects to unveil a new line of superyachts under the Azzurra name. The range, which spans from 30 to 50 meters, seamlessly blends classic Italian design with cutting-edge engineering, offering a fresh take on luxury yachting.
The Azzurra range incorporates several innovative features, including an asymmetric main-deck layout that prioritizes the main saloon, as well as a highly efficient naval platform. “Mauro Giamboi and Van Oossanen have created a family of yachts that not only captivate with their beauty but also set new benchmarks in performance and efficiency,” said Perry Van Oossanen. He credited the success of the designs to the perfect fusion of Italian aesthetics and Dutch engineering. All models in the Azzurra range are built on the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), a design developed by Oossanen that delivers fuel savings of 20 to 30 percent at cruising speeds.
The Azzurra 40, the first model in the series, is described as the “ultimate semi-custom platform” in its size category, measuring 40.2 meters in length. A standout feature of the yacht is its aft deck, which boasts a glass-fronted dip pool, sun loungers, and sofa seating. Expanding bulwarks add up to 85 square meters of usable space, while steps at the aft and starboard sides lead directly to the swim platform for easy water access. The sundeck is designed for dining, sunbathing, and lounging, with partial shading from a hardtop.
The Azzurra 40 can accommodate up to 16 guests and nine crew members, with flexibility to convert cabins for charter-friendly use. The owner’s suite, located on the upper deck, is a spacious retreat with a private balcony spanning 40 square meters, as well as a casual dining area, office space, and sofa seating. The yacht is compatible with both traditional twin-engine and hybrid propulsion systems, offering a maximum speed of 16 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. Two additional models, the Azzurra 36 and an ice-class Azzurra 48, are also part of the new range.
In addition to the Azzurra series, Giamboi has unveiled two other concepts: an 80-meter yacht designed for polar expeditions and a 40-meter catamaran featuring the largest, most immersive beach club in its size category. These designs continue Giamboi’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of luxury yacht design, combining style, performance, and innovative engineering.
